VIM HowTo - Testing New Versions

[960527,980611] Some tips on testing new releases of Vim:

Read the announcement!!
Please take a look at the announcements (available from the history page) as they tell you about new and changed features, incorporated patches and bug fixes.

Read the help file!
New features and changes are also described in the help file. Use ":help" on the new things and find out what they are good for, eg ":help version5.txt" and ":help version-5.1".

Try new features!
Try out the new stuff as it is. Do not be afraid to test some of things you have never used yet.

Check the FAQ!
If you have a question then please make sure it is not a FAQ. Knowing the answers of the FAQ means that you know your way around VIM. It does pay to read the VIM FAQ!

Ask the folks on the mailing lists!
Do not be afraid to ask for examples on the newsgroup (comp.editors) and on the mailing lists (vim and vim-dev). Note that you must subscribe to the lists before sending mails to them for distribution! And, please, try to avoid FAQs. Thanks!
