Well, there it is.  More than a year after Vim 6.0a Alpha.
 It's about time we get a full release!
There are a few bug fixes since 6.0ax, I don't expect them to
cause new trouble.  The XIM problems have not really been solved,
but I didn't want to postpone the 6.0 release any further.
Hopefully the hack I included will make it work for most people.
I'll announce it to a larger audience
when the mirror sites have catched up.
Thanks to all the people who helped making Vim 6.0 what it is now.
Either by sending me patches and Vim scripts or just reporting tiny
problems.  Vim wouldn't be the same without your contribution!!!
What next?
Next week I'm going to visit the project in Uganda.  In November I have
another holiday planned.  In between I'll try to fix the most important
bugs that are reported.  Anything else will have to wait for a while.
Don't expect great new features in a next version.  Vim has grown into a
complex program with so many features and options that there is nobody who
uses them all.  Stability and easy of use are the main goals for the future.

This might be the last BETA for Vim 6.0.  I'm planning the 6.0 release
in less than a week from now.  I'm not going to change much, only
important problems and things I know won't cause trouble.
Last call for updating message and menu translations!!!

About 400 people took part in sending in their votes for features that should be in Vim6. The top requested feature to be with VIM6 is "folding" which basically hides parts of the text and thus allows to focus on just some parts of the text. The runner-up is "vertical split" which allow to split windows vertically and thus to show files side-by-side. The next two things are adding more features to auto-indent code in more programming languages and making Vim "more robust". People then requested to add searching across line boundaries and improve the speed of syntax coloring. And last not least, everyone seems to want a better interface for selecting buffers. The last two items are: "stop changing Vim" and "remove functionality". What did you expect? ;-)
